March Kindle First Books

Kindle First

March Kindle First Books

With Kindle First, Amazon Prime members are offered one free book each month from 6 books picked by Amazon’s editors. This is the second time I’ve posted the email from them to help others and myself decide what book to try. (My thoughts are in red).

I’ve just noticed two things from their site that explains the system. One is that the book is nonrefundable which makes since for Prime members that gets these books for free a month before they are released. Two, these are only offered for U.S. Amazon Prime members.

So here is this month’s books. I’ve copied and pasted the email’s synopsis for the books because it seems that not only do we get the book’s blurb, but also one from the Amazon editor on why they picked that book. Sorry but I’d much rather copy/ paste these one sentence synopsis.

Any thoughts on these books would be great for helping me and others in choosing from these books. Thank you.

Thriller

The Big Fear - Andrew Case

The Big Fear by Andrew Case.

4.2 out of 5 stars (5)
Release Date: April 1, 2016
Pre-order Price: $5.99
Buy Now Price: $0.00 ๐ŸŒŸ Prime.

“The fear is back, no one can be trusted, and the city is set to burn.”

* Oh say it isn’t so! Ha. Sorry. I’m not a fan of thrillers, mystery or suspense books. Nice cover though.

Historical Fiction

While You Were Mine - Ann Howard Creel

While You Were Mine by Ann Howard Creel.

4.0 out of 5 stars (7)
Release Date: April 1, 2016
Pre-order Price: $5.99
Buy Now Price: $0.00 ๐ŸŒŸ Prime.

“Can love survive the turmoil of war’s end and the risk that all could be lost again?”

* This was my choice mainly because the story sounded like something I’d like. The others sounded ok but not my sort of read.

Fantasy

The Queens Poisoner - Jeff Wheeler

The Queen’s Poisoner (The Kingfountain Series Book 1) by Jeff Wheeler.

4.9 out of 5 stars (10)
Release Date: April 1, 2016
Pre-order Price: $5.99
Buy Now Price: $0.00 ๐ŸŒŸ Prime.

“The son of a traitorous duke must win a vengeful king’s favor through extraordinary means.”

* Book 1 of a series, no thank you. And from that sentence and the blurbs, it just sounds like all those other Game of Thrones fantasy stuff.

Suspense

Orchids and Stone - Lisa Preston

Orchids and Stone by Lisa Preston.

4.5 out of 5 stars (2)
Release Date: April 1, 2016
Pre-order Price: $5.99
Buy Now Price: $0.00 ๐ŸŒŸ Prime.

“How far would you go to help a stranger?”

* Good question but the book doesn’t look like something I’d like. And it looks like this has one reviewย by a reviewer that other Amazon people think looks a little fishy. I don’t know. Maybe fishy because they read and reviewed this (and two other First books) the same day they were available for free purchase.

Children’s Picture Book

Twenty Yawns - Jane Smiley - Lauren Castillo

Twenty Yawns by Jane Smiley, Lauren Castillo.

4.6 out of 5 stars (9)
Release Date: April 1, 2016
Pre-order Price: $5.99
Buy Now Price: $0.00 ๐ŸŒŸ Prime.

“A children’s bedtime tale from Pulitzer Prize winner Jane Smiley and Caldecott Honor recipient Lauren Castillo.”

* A children’s book, interesting. I will probably check out the hardcover at the Library for my niece in the future. The kid’s bed definitely looks like my niece’s that’s fair sure.

Literary Suspense

The Light of the Fireflies - Paul Pen - Simon Bruni

The Light of the Fireflies by Paul Pen, Simon Bruniย (Translator).

4.5 out of 5 stars (4)
Release Date: April 1, 2016
Pre-order Price: $5.99
Buy Now Price: $0.00 ๐ŸŒŸ Prime.

“Locked in a basement with his family, will he ever know the truth behind his confinement?”

* Wait a moment. Is it just me or does that sentence sound like a blurb for the Room by Emma Donaghue but through the boys point of view? Ok. After looking at the book’s blurb, the first half of it looked ok and then it just got weird. But still like Room mixed in with maybe Anne Frank. Possibly. Cover looks nice though doesn’t it?

Well this month turned out to be an easy pick for me.

What book would you have chosen?

Have you heard of any of these authors?

If you haven’t I wouldn’t be surprised because Amazon seems to stick with unheard of authors for these free books.
