The Friday 56
I’ve been seeing these posts from various blogs that I follow and liked them because some have fun quotes within them. This is a Friday meme started by Freda @ Freda’s Voice.
- Grab a book, any book.
- Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader (If you have to improvise, that’s ok.)
- Find any sentence, (or few, just don’t spoil it)
- Post it.
- Add your (url) post below (on Freda’s Friday posts) in Linky. Add the Friday post url, not your blog url.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
I am just about done with rereading this book. I’m not sure which Austen book is my favorite as I love all of them. Pride and Prejudice does have some of my favorite characters, my #1 favorite being Elizabeth Bennet.
I have 2 editions for this book. Actually 3 if I were to include the iTunes audiobook, read by Emma Messenger. On my kindle edition, page 56 is within chapter 17 (or so that’s the page that my newish 6″ Kindle Fire says). In the Bantam Classic paperback edition, page 56 is within chapter 16. A big difference there but that’s due in part because the 2 book editions have different type sizes. So I am going to improvise here by jumping to Chapter 56 and find a quote or such without spoilers.
Chapter 56, 3rd paragraph
The Real character attitude of Lady Catherine De Bourgh:
“She entered the room with an air of more than usually ungracious, made no other reply to Elizabeth’s salutation than a slight inclination of the head, and sat down without saying a word. Elizabeth had mentioned her name to her mother in her ladyship’s entrance, though no request of introduction had been made.”
This chapter is really a beautiful one because Elizabeth has really grown up here and accepted her family as they are. And it’s also great because of the conversation she has with Lady Catherine.
I have seen a few film adaptations for this book and my favorite actress that played Lady Catherine is Dame Judi Dench. She played that character perfectly!
