Top 5 Wednesday

I’m going to try these Top 5 Wednesday topics from the Goodreads group. I’ve seen and joined that Goodreads group for some time now. The topics in April looked pretty good. I really liked this topic. And since I already liked to make lists, these 5 every week shouldn’t be too difficult for me. Maybe..

April 20th – Book You’re Intimidated By

My physical Book Shelf is pretty intimidating and it’s now overflowing. But here’s those other books that are just as intimidating.

01. Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

I read all the Musketeer Books, which has 5 very long books, and then The Count of Monte Cristo all by Alexandre Dumas. I read all those books in my early twenties and I found them daunting at first because of the size, but then I couldn’t put them down.

Titanic Blood And Steel 2012

Now the Outlander series has 8 long books, not including all those extra stuff. Oh lord that is a lot to go through. I bought book 1 kindle edition back in 2013 for $1.99. That is how long that this book has been waiting on my kindle(s) for me to read. I haven’t been so excited to read the book because this isn’t my usual type of genres, time travel and historical fiction.

I was looking forward to watching the tv show on the Starz cable channel. The first season started off good. But then I started to loose interest in the story and ended up skipping in watching some of the episodes.

Now it’s Season 2 and the first two episodes were pretty good. The story is a lot more engaging that it was in the first season in my opinion.

02. Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin.

Game of Thrones by George R R Martin

Here’s another 8 very long book series. I purchased the 4 Book kindle edition back in 2013 for $15.99. It’s now $34.99.

My aunt and sister have both read this book series and has recommended it to me. They have both admitted that this is a long read but worth it. They also said that there is a lot of characters to follow that they sometimes wish to see a list of just those characters in order to keep track.

And then there’s the HBO cable show. I have not watched a single full episode from the 5 seasons. Even after the show’s big promotional thing on March 3rd for the fans where they streamed/ aired one episode per night on HBO NOW. #GOT50

Well I still don’t know if I’m going to invest in watching the show. And the kindle book is waiting for me to read it.

03. True Blood and Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris.

True Blood - Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris

Another long book series here. This time the 13 books are thankfully a lot shorter. And yet it looks like this book series is never ending. Maybe. The last book, Dead Ever After was published in 2013. Was is the end of the series? Is it now just 13 books? Does anybody know for sure?

As for the books, this wouldn’t be my first vampire book series that I have read, so the genre isn’t what I’m worried about. So I’m not too worried about starting this series. It’s just that I’ve heard that this book series is one of those Love It or Hate It books. And now this book is waiting on my kindle thanks to my library’s Overdrive loan.

True Blood Fangtasia

Alexs Bar

When HBO first aired the show True Blood, my sisters and I really liked it. I think we ended up being fans of this show because of one of the places that they filmed the show at. Fangtasia was filmed at my sisters’ favorite dive bar in Long Beach, California, called Alex’s Bar. The show was filmed there for one season and then with their own settings. The show didn’t have to add that many props to the bar, and the ones that they did are still there. It’s a fun bar so if you’re in the area in Long Beach, stop on by at Alex’s Bar. But after the first season thrills, the show lost it’s charms with me. And then the show got even more bizarre as the seasons continued that my sisters even lost interest (youngest watched it up until the 6th season). The only positive thing from that show that I can think of at this moment (besides the hunky actors) who, is the Show’s opening credit‘s song, Jace Everett’s Bad Thing.

04. Star Wars book series.

My best friend had a lot of these books within his book collections. And my sister’s friend also has some of these books in her collection too. There is a lot of these books to choose from. A lot. Wikipedia has at least 6 categories to the list of books for the series.

Choosing where to start is a little difficult. For the books I own, there’s the original George Lucas movie-novelization (IV-VI), and then there’s the ones for the movie that was just released (Aftermath, or The Force Awakens). Oh and then there’s the one for the Disney cartoon show, Star Wars Rebels (Star Wars A New Dawn – copy thanks to Netgalley). And then there’s the other two books I got from Netgalley, Dark Disciple and Tarkin.

Well I’ll try to read the Star Wars trilogy by George Lucas (& Donald F. Glut and James Khan). It’s got the 3 books to the movies Star Wars 4 to 6.

05. Hamlet by William Shakespeare

Hamlet by William Shakespeare

The most I read from this was when I did a monologue performance for an assignment in my high school’s theatre class.

Ophelia: There’s fennel for you, and columbines. There’s rue for you,
and here’s some for me. We may call it herb of grace o’ Sundays.
O, you must wear your rue with a difference! There’s a daisy. I
would give you some violets, but they wither’d all when my father
died. They say he made a good end.
[Sings] For bonny sweet Robin is all my joy.”

Now if Michael Fassbender was in Hamlet as well as he was in Macbeth in 2015, then I just might read that. I saw this trailer for Macbeth back in June 2015. Though I haven’t seen the movie (yet), I did sort of imagine Michael in it as I was reading the book in October.
