My Top 10 Favorite Football Movies

It’s Super Bowl Sunday today, who’s watching the game? As I’m watching the pre-game show, I thought I’d make a list of all my favorite American Football Movies.

My TOP 10 Favorites are..

#1 favorite is the 1993 film Rudy.

Stars Sean Astin as “real-life character Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger, a football walk-on who overcomes some significant challenges and wins over his teammates and coaches to land a spot as a “dress” player for the final game of the season.” (IMDb’s #1 too)

A great inspirational story, plus it has one of my favorite College Football teams, Notre Dame University. I highly recommend watching this movie. Sean Austen was great!

#2 The Express (2008 film)

“A drama based on the life of college football hero Ernie Davis, the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy.” Stars: Rob Brown, Dennis Quaid and Clancy Brown.

Another great inspirational film.

#3 Wildcats. 1986 film starring Goldie Hawn as the Wildcats’s High School Football Hard Coach. Also stars Swoosie Kurtz, Robyn Lively, Bruce McGill, Wesley Snipes, Woody Harrison, and LL Cool J.

Goldie Hawn proves that a Blondie Female is just as capable in being a head coach.

#4 Invincible (2006 film) “Based on the story of Vince Papale, a 30-year-old bartender from South Philadelphia who overcame long odds to play for the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles in 1976.” Stars: Mark Wahlberg, Greg Kinnear, Elizabeth Banks.

Invincible is another good inspirational film.

#5 The Longest Yard (1974 film starring Burt Reynolds and Eddie Albert) Football in prison.

#6 The Blind Side (2009 film starring Sandra Bullock, Jae Head, Quinton Aaron).

#7 We Are Marshall (2006 film) In 1970, “when a plane crash claims the lives of members of the Marshall University football team and some of its fans, the team’s new coach and his surviving players try to keep the football program alive.” Stars: Matthew McConaughey, Matthew Fox, and Anthony Mackie.

#8 Any Given Sunday (1999 film starring Cameron Diaz, Al Pacino, Dennis Quaid, LL Cool J, Matthew Modine, Jamie Foxx, James Woods and Ann-Margret).

#9 North Dallas Forty (1979 film) “Based on the semiautobiographical novel by Peter Gent, who himself played wide receiver for the Cowboys during that time. Nick Nolte plays the main character, Phil Elliott, an aging wide receiver who is biding his time in the league until he can retire and enjoy the good life.”

#10 The Water Boy (1998 comedy) Stars: Adam Sandler and Henry Winkler.
