Gojira vs Godzilla: 1964 Mothra vs Godzilla

Godzilla 1954-2014 Incarnations

Gojira vs Godzilla

The old Godzilla movies vs those newer versions. (The full 30+ list of films). After seeing the 2014 film at the beginning of this year and really liking it, I have decided to watch some other Godzilla films.

Since there’s about 30 films (and one more soon to come in July), I’ll only be doing a few of them at this moment. I most certainly have the original 1954 film on my agenda. I have watched and reviewed these films so far: 1998 Godzilla (and now this movie below).

Mothra vs Godzilla

American re-editing title: Godzilla vs The Thing.

1964 Fantasy/ Science Fiction film. Toho Production Film directed by Ishirō Honda. Starring: Akira Takarada, Yuriko Gosh I, Hiroshi Koidumi (as Godzilla) and Yu Fuijiki.

Short Synopsis: Mothra defends her offspring when Godzilla invades their Pacific island nursery.

Godzilla vs The Thing Mothra

My Thoughts: This was a fun film. It was quick and simple with some cute monsters. That’s right, I said cute. One if my younger cousins was under the impression that Godzilla was a puppet. Toho Production Co. doesn’t do those sort of monsters. In fact, in this film there is even two miniature women.

As for this oldie, the plot is simple. There was a storm. Mothra‘s egg rolls off the mysterious island. And Godzilla shows up for that egg. Oh and of course there was some wealthy business wants to profit from that egg. How is not really clear. So the (Japanese and U.S.) military tries to capture, then kill Godzilla. And all that poor Godzilla wants to do is destroy the egg, Well that’s where the miniature women and Mothra come in to the movie.

This was a Japanese film made by Toho Production, and then remastered by the Americans. So besides the English dubbed language, this was a decent classic.

The Play by Play of my thoughts

Mothra vs Godzilla 1964

“It’s Gigantic Monster Egg.” And naturally everyone wants to see it. And here’s the journalists who found “something” and touched it because it was “very pretty.”

Mothra vs Godzilla 1964

Just business. And there’s the business man that now has claimed the egg as his. Oh look it’s miniature women.

Mothra Island. The island where atomic testing was done at. Where people shrank and an insect grew large.

Mothra vs Godzilla 1964

The ground is moving! Gojira! So Godzilla is radioactive but where the insect was is not radioactive. The “beautiful thing” that the camera-woman and the reporter found had contaminated them.

Gojira smash! So what’s the first thing Godzilla does after waking up? Destroy some industrial buildings of course, oh and that fancy house too.

Mothra vs Godzilla 1964

“Frontier Missile, that’s an unfamiliar name isn’t it?” The problem is choosing where to attack Godzilla. But it looks like the American’s military can’t stop him, so it’s up to those journalist to ask Mothra to stop Godzilla. Oh and it’s back to seeing those two miniature women.

Greed. Meanwhile the business guys are fighting over getting rich over the egg. Unfortunately Godzilla wants that egg too.

Plan B. Surround Godzilla. That didn’t work.

Mothra vs Godzilla 1964

Mothra vs Godzilla. Mothra did give Godzilla a good fight too bad that it was already dying. I’m sure it would’ve really beaten Godzilla if it was in it’s prime.

Mothra vs Godzilla 1964;

Two Mothra Worms vs Godzilla. Like Worm’s silk can catch Godzilla better than the metal nets the military used. Well I suppose so because these are special Worms.

Mothra vs Godzilla 1964

The End. So goodbye Godzilla and those two funny looking Worms.

  1. I like Mothra and Godzilla in their own movies, frankly. The match-ups are never as good because any attempt at backstory or plot gets sacrificed to the battle of the Kaiju. I am excited to see what the 2016 Toho feature will be like. All I know so far is that Godzilla will be huger than ever!

    1. Hmm in the first 1998 American movie Godzilla is referred to as a he but then they realized that it has both organs thereby allowing it to reproduce on it’s own. Strange
